Celebration of recovery at Hugh MacRae Park
There was a celebration of recovery at Hugh MacRae Park in Wilmington Saturday. September is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month. Participants celebrated this year’s theme “Real People, Real Recovery” by declaring their success on the Recovery Wall, while others shared their stories of addiction and their path to recovery.
Mandy Anderson-Ille of the Wilmington Treatment Center said the gathering should help people realize they can overcome addiction. “We’re just here to show people that people in recovery can recover from alcoholism and drug addiction, and that it’s a treatable disease. Everybody here in the community is here to do that today,” said Anderson-Ille.
The Wilmington Treatment Center, Coastal Horizons and Narcotics Anonymous kicked off the statewide substance abuse recovery program.
