Celebrity squirrel performs at Wilmington Boat Show

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — One of the biggest attractions at the Boat Show is a four legged little critter who knows her way around the pool. Twiggy the Water-Skiing Squirrel will be performing all weekend for folks at Battleship Park.

Although Twiggy is quite the talent, her performances come with a message. Twiggy’s mom Lou Ann Best lost her husband in a boating accident and now she and Twiggy travel the country and even the world teaching folks the importance of wearing a life vest and learning how to swim.

She said one of the most rewarding parts is when kids take Twiggy’s message to heart.

“And this little kid he runs up to me after the show and he goes ‘I just want to tell you I went out there and I learned to float just like Twiggy said.’ But you see that’s the magic of the whole thing, Twiggy’s not talking, I’m talking, but they hear Twiggy. That’s the magic,” said Best.

She said she hopes to keep traveling and teaching with Twiggy and would love to see her get her very own movie someday.
