Celebs join effort for law enforcement memorial

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Recreation Association is asking for your help. The group is looking to build a memorial honoring local law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. The memorial would cost about $75,000.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, along with Wrightsville, Kure and Carolina Beach police support the memorial. At a news conference today, several celebrities donated signed memorabilia to help raise funds for the memorial.

“It will be a place of reflection and remembrance for the fallen officers’ families, their coworkers and the community,” Sgt. Warren Kennedy said. “A place to go and think about the sacrifice that these men and women have made to the community to keep it safe.”

Officers have raised $41,000 so far. If you’d like to donate, contact Wilmington Police at (910) 341-0140.
