Man hospitalized after cement truck overturns on Highway 133

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A cement truck flipped over in Brunswick County early Monday morning, snarling traffic on Highway 133/River Road SE in Belville.

According to Chief John Grimes with the Leland Fire Department, the S & D Concrete truck flipped just south of Morecamble Boulevard.

Traffic heading northbound on Highway 133/River Road SE was snarled for miles.

As of 11:35 a.m., the road was still down to one lane. Highway Patrol Trooper John King says two wrecker trucks were on the scene.

The crash happened at 7:30 a.m. when the driver ran off the road, but over corrected when he attempted to get back into the lane. No other vehicles were involved.

Belville Elementary School issue an alert to parents informing them of the situation and to expect delays. Buses were also expected to be running late due to the accident.

The driver was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, according to Highway Patrol.

A charge is pending, but Tpr. King says speed did not cause the crash.
