Cerro Gordo FD gets big grant
A small fire department in Columbus County is getting a lot of money. Rep. Mike McIntyre presented a check for nearly $120,000 to the Cerro Gordo Fire Department today.
Fire chief Terry Floyd says the federal grant money is much appreciated and will be used to replace old fire and rescue equipment.
“With this particular grant we’re going to outfit all the firefighters, we have 36, and they’ll be outfitted head to toe,” Floyd said. “We’re also purchasing a new jaws of life, which is replacing the unit that’s 20 years old, so it means a lot to us.”
This single grant is more than the volunteer fire department typically receives in tax revenue in an entire year.
