CF River Watch gets clean with harvested water

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear River Watch building is getting a face-lift. Volunteers will paint the inside and outside as part of National Make a Difference Day, but the preparations are making a difference too. A truck holding 1,100 gallons of water is being used as a green solution to the problem of getting water to pressure wash the Cape Fear River Watch building.

Riverkeeper Kemp Burdette said, “It’s just pure rain water, but it’s coming straight out of the sky, so it’s ready for use and plenty clean to wash the building with. It’s just as natural as it can be.”

Instead of using up valuable tap water…Cape Fear Rain Water Harvesting Inc. brought rainwater harvested from the roof off the 911 call center right here in New Hanover County.

“We really feel like this is a good way to practice what we preach. We advocate for water conservation, and we’re doing a little bit of it here by pressure washing with rainwater” said Burdette.

Harvesting rainwater is a small way that you can make a difference everyday.
