CFCC interim president officially appointed
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College officially has an interim president. The board of trustees appointed Dr. Amanda Lee to the position Thursday night.
The vote came exactly a week after Ted Spring surprised everyone by resigning at a board of trustees meeting. There’s been no word on why Spring resigned, and no one from the board really wanted to talk about what’s next at the meeting.
The chairman would only re-iterate to WWAY what the board voted on.
“At this time, the board made a move to move Dr. Lee from acting to interim president, and that’s all we have at this time,” said Jason Harris, the CFCC Board of Trustees chairman.
However, in a news release from CFCC, Harris said, “We are pleased to appoint Dr. Lee to help guide the college during this period of transition in leadership.”
The news release goes on to say that Dr. Lee joined CFCC in 2003 as an instructor. Before coming to CFCC, Dr. Lee taught courses at Nash Community College, Texas A&M University, UNC-Wilmington, and Baylor University. In addition to her experience in higher education, Dr. Lee has worked in private industry as a director of standards, quality assurance and personnel for a medical services company with nearly 100 employees.
The board of trustees Thursday night also approved two new courses for the school, baking and pastry application and interpretive education application which includes american sign language. They hope to have those classes up and running by the fall.
