CFCC launches ‘Sea Devil Cove’ at Career Readiness Academy at Mosley

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College is bringing the college experience directly to students at the Career Readiness Academy at Mosley with the launch of a new space called “Sea Devil Cove.”
The project expands a two-year partnership between CFCC and Mosley. The school now has two dedicated college classrooms designed to give students an introduction to higher education and career training while they remain on their high school campus.
The upgraded space includes a 19-station computer lab, new desks and chairs, and CFCC branding designed to create a college-style environment.
“When students walk into that new space, we really want them to feel like they’re college students,” said Charlie Broadfoot, principal of Mosley. “That builds into the question of, ‘When I graduate, what’s next?’ And for a lot of our students, we’re hoping CFCC will be that next step.”
Students selected the courses they wanted to take, choosing cybersecurity, graphic design and criminal justice. The courses will be taught by CFCC faculty and are tuition-free.
“Partnering with local schools allows us to meet students right where they are,” said Jim Morton, CFCC president. “By creating a dedicated college environment at Mosley, we’re removing barriers to entry and opening immediate doors to higher learning and career success.”
Students who successfully complete the courses can pursue additional CFCC opportunities, including online classes or in-person courses at CFCC campuses.
The program is part of CFCC’s dual enrollment efforts to provide high school students with opportunities to earn college experience and career-focused training before graduation.
