CFCC students show off tiny house for Sustainability Awareness Week

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — This week is Cape Fear Community College’s Annual Sustainability Awareness Week. In honor of that, students showed off what they’re working on Thursday afternoon.

The 140 square foot tiny home was first built in 2015 as the students’ capstone or senior project.

Now students are continuing to build, design, and redo the structure inside and out.

Those include air barriers, weather resistant barriers, and exterior cladding.

All sustainable methods are taught through this program.

“We learn a little about a lot,” CFCC student Logan Husain said. “And that’s important I think because it will make these types of students more well rounded. And in any field that they go into they will be bringing the principals that we learn through this program into them.”

Dozens of people came out to see the progress, and learn more about the sustainable and eco-friendly materials students use to build the house.

This tiny house will never be officially finished as students will use it for years to come.
