CFCC to launch medical assisting program this fall
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College has announced a new program for students wanting to go into the medical field.
The school announced an associate of applied science medical assisting program is set to begin this fall.
CFCC says the program will qualify students to perform administrative, clinical, and laboratory procedures in support of physicians and other health professionals.
CFCC plans to accept 24 students this fall. Selections will be made through a points system, where points are awarded based on a series of academic criterion.
“This is a valuable degree. Medical assistant jobs are expected to grow 29% by 2026,” said Program Director Laura Muldowney. “The opportunity in this field is rapidly growing and we’re excited to implement this program.”
“Medical assisting is an essential component to the healthcare field; it offers a combination of practitioner and administrative functions,” said CFCC Dean of Health Sciences Dr. Angela Ballentine. “Individuals in this field are valued healthcare professionals exceptionally trained to provide quality health care to the communities we serve.”
Medical assisting information places are scheduled to take place on the Wilmington Campus in room L-321 on March 19 from 9:00-10:00 a.m., and Wednesday, April 11 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. Individuals interested in a job in medical assisting are encouraged to attend one of these sessions.
