CFCC women knock off BCC in hoops

BOLIVIA, NC (CFCC RELEASE) — Cape Fear Community College picked up its second win in as many nights as the Sea Devils made the short ride down Highway 17 to pick up a 76-64 victory over conference rival Brunswick Community College in women’s basketball action on Thursday.

Victoria Florence led all scorers with 24 points to pace the Cape Fear attack, while Eboni Gilliam chipped in with 14 points. With the Sea Devils trailing by five at the midway point of the first half, Cape Fear went on a decisive 18-2 run to make it 37-27 at the break. Florence and Alexus Hampton carried the offense over the opening 20 minutes as the Dolphins shot just 24 percent from the floor.

Brunswick Community College got as close as seven in the second half, but the Sea Devils extended their advantage back to double-digits through the final 10 minutes of the game. Kristina Rumplasch also finished a strong second period to close with 13 points.

Cape Fear extended their win streak to five straight games to start the New Year and improved to 8-2 in conference, 13-4 overall. The Sea Devils play in their second of seven consecutive road games with a trip to Spartanburg Methodist on Saturday, Jan. 17.
