CFCC luncheon raises big bucks

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — More than 600 people gathered at Cape Fear Community College today to help students in need. The annual Gift of Education Luncheon typically raises a quarter of a million dollars or more in financial aid for CFCC students.

Today’s luncheon featured student speakers who have benefited from this type of aid. The keynote speaker was James Maynard, the CEO of Golden Corral.

CFCC president Eric McKeithan says financial aid is imperative to many students’ success.

“Many of our students are still working, but they are feeling stressed financially, and they need scholarship assistance to be able to stay in school and really make a difference in their lives, so they can graduate and become contributing members to our community,” McKeithan said.

CFCC also uses this event to acquaint members of the community with the college. This year they had record attendance including many elected leaders from Wilmington. The event raised $207,000.
