CFPUA reschedules boil water advisory for Lewis Creek area

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A precautionary boil water advisory has been rescheduled for Thursday for about 400 CFPUA customers in the Lewis Creek and Lewis Landing Drive area.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority said the advisory will begin at 10 a.m. Sept. 10. It was previously scheduled to begin Wednesday.

The advisory will affect the Palisades at Lewis Creek community and addresses on Lewis Landing Avenue, Bratton Court, Ballaster Drive, Branch Row, Creek Bend Terrace, Runaway Bay, Grey Cliff Run, Killdeer Lane, Oyster Reef Run, Dove Shell Way and Mangrove Place.

Customers may experience temporary water service disruptions while crews work on a water main tie-in in the area.

Customers along the Gordon Road corridor may also notice temporary water discoloration during the work. CFPUA said the discoloration can occur when mineral buildup in water mains is flushed out and does not mean the water is unsafe to drink unless a boil water advisory has been issued for that customer.

Customers who experience discolored water can run cold water from their faucets for about five minutes or until the water runs clear. CFPUA crews will also conduct hydrant flushing throughout the Gordon Road area.

Customers under the boil water advisory should boil water for at least one minute and allow it to cool before consuming it. Bottled water can also be used.

The advisory applies to water used for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, preparing food, washing fruits and vegetables, giving water to pets and preparing baby formula. Boiling water is not necessary for showering or bathing.

CFPUA said low or no water pressure can increase the potential for bacteria to enter the water system.

The advisory will remain in effect until CFPUA testing confirms the water is safe to drink.
