CFPUA completes wastewater treatment facility project

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority celebrated the completion of an $80 million plant project that has been 10 years in the works.

The point of the project was to expand and make upgrades to the Northside Wastewater Treatment Facility in Wilmington. Some changes include new water, clarifying, and odor-reducing systems.

“For the community, it means that they don’t have to worry about anything,” said CFPUA COO Nancy Gallinaro. “That their waste is being taken care of, that we’re taking care of the river, that we’re protecting the environment and every aspect, and that the people that they’ve elected, and the money that’s being spent, it’s all being done the right way.”

Gallinaro said this re-dedication ceremony was to commend all those involved for a job well done.
