Chadbourn man accused of causing crash, shooting at truck

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –An argument at a Whiteville convenience store led to a crash and shooting, according to the Columbus County Sheriff’s office.

Dexter Ray Cartret, 26, is charged with discharging a weapon into occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon.

According to a sheriff’s office spokeswoman, Cartret argued with a man while at the D&D Quick Mart yesterday afternoon. Cartret fired a shot in the parking lot. Both men drove off.

Investigators say Cartret then rammed his jeep into the back of the man’s truck. When the man stopped his truck after being hit, Cartret fired shots into it.

There was also a passenger in the truck at the time.

Cartret is in jail under a $27,500 secured bond.
