Chadbourn Town Manager indicted for impersonating officer

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County grand jury has returned indictments against Chadbourn’s town manager, including one for impersonating an officer.

A state trooper pulled Cox over in March as Cox and other town leaders returned from Raleigh in the town police chief’s SUV. Investigators say Cox told the trooper Cox was the police chief and even showed a badge.

Cox has pleaded not guilty to the charges, which the District Attorney’s office also says include resisting a public officer, speeding and expired license. He’s scheduled back in court June 6.

Cox still has his job with the town as of this afternoon.
