Challengers file for Gore’s DA seat

Two local district attorney hopefuls made their intentions official this week.

Butch Pope, an attorney in Whiteville, filed to run against incumbent Rex Gore in the Democratic primary for DA of Brunswick, Bladen and Columbus Counties. Pope is a member of the state bar’s ethics council, and says its time to get rid of the “old machine” in local politics.

Jon David filed to run today on the Republican ticket. David lives in Brunswick County and currently works as an assistant district attorney in New Hanover County. He ran a close race against gore in the last election.
