Chamber: don’t use convention center for political platform
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce thinks Harper Peterson is giving the future convention center a bum rap. The chamber says the convention center will bring jobs and economic prosperity to the City.
It’s urging candidates running for City office not to use the convention center as a part of their platform.
The purpose of the chamber’s press conference Tuesday was to clear up what it calls misinformation about the convention center.
Chamber of Commerce Chair Jim Bryan said, “It’s easy to talk in generalities about the convention center but what we want to do is make sure that the specifics about this convention center are in the public mind.”
The Chamber of Commerce says the convention center will bring more than $50 million to the community.
Opponents of the project say the millions it will take to build it could be better spent.
