Could big changes be coming to Freeman Park in Carolina Beach?
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A hot topic Carolina Beach Town Council discussed Tuesday morning that drew a crowd was the possibility of new rules for Freeman Park.
Council is seeking new regulations for the park.
Many of their concerns highlighted things like trash, public safety, hours of operation for camping, and traffic congestion.
Town Manager Michael Cramer says these changes are a necessity and breaking them up into phases is the easiest way to manage it.
“That’s why we broke it up into phases and said here’s things that we could do, now or as later. There are other things that we might just have to wait until next year to go and see how our first changes fixed it or didn’t fix it and go back and address it again,” Cramer said.
Phase one would establish ordinance rules for campsites, increase education on rules, and incorporate parking improvements.
In Phase two, vehicles would not be allowed to enter the park after 9:00 p.m. and would only allow four wheel drive vehicles.
