Changes to New Hanover County recycling

New Hanover County is making some changes to its recycling program.

As of this week, drop-off sites now accept more plastic.

New Hanover County now accepts all types of plastic at drop off locations.

Before you could only recycle things with a neck. But now you can add shampoo bottles, plastic planters, and old Tupperware to that list .

Some more items you can recycle now:
Yogurt containers
Plastic take-out containers
Laundry detergent bottles.

The new plastic recycling changes only affect unincorporated New Hanover County — not the city of Wilmington.

But, the hope is that will change.

Recylced matter is then sold to companies who use the raw materials around the country.
The revenue then goes back in to the counties budget…
So not only does it save room in the landfill…but recycling saves taxpayer money.

The new recycling program does not include plastic bags or children’s pools.
