Charges upgraded after moped driver injured in crash dies

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington woman is now being charged with death by motor vehicle charges after the victim she allegedly hit died as a result of his injuries.

Police say Susan Tumidaj hit moped driver Albert Cox, 59, on December 30 at the intersection of 3rd Street and Market Street. Police say Cox died Tuesday from his injuries in that crash.

Police say charges have been upgraded Tumidaj to include death by motor vehicle. She is also charged with DWI. She is in the New Hanover County jail.

Witnesses told police that Tumidaj hit the victim with her vehicle while he was riding his moped on N. 3rd Street.
