Charges upgraded to murder in baby death investigation
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Detectives with the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office have charged Albert David Morgan, 35, of with the murder of his girlfriend’s 15-month-old, Brayden Ray.
Investigators say after a meeting with District Attorney Jon David, they determined that the charge would be first degree murder. Morgan was also charged on January 15 with felony intentional child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. The child died from those injuries on January 17 in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Morgan remains in the custody of the Brunswick County Detention Facility and was given no bond for the charge of first degree murder.
Deputies say Angel Marie Ray, 33, who was charged with felony accessory after the fact in the same incident, remains in the Brunswick County Detention Facility under a $750,000 bond. According to Ray’s brother, the mother did not know of the extent of the child’s injuries until she was in custody.
