Charges dropped against former police officer

WILMINGTON — Charges against a former Wrightsville Beach Police officer have been dismissed.

Ashley Freeman was working as an officer for the Wrightsville Beach Police Department in April when he was accused of being in a fistfight at the Dubliner, a bar off Carolina Beach Road.

Freeman resigned from the department shortly after his arrest.

Prosecutors say the two assault charges freeman was facing were dropped because witnesses failed to appear yesterday.

The judge denied a request to continue the case.
