Charlotte city official confirms planning for Trump tower

CHARLOTTE (AP) — Local officials say real estate mogul Donald Trump continues to move forward on plans for a mega-development in Charlotte that could include the tallest building in the city.

City and county staffers have had preliminary discussions with Trump's son, Donald Trump Junior, about the plans to build luxury condominiums, a five-star hotel and an office tower.

The complex could include a 60-plus-story building on the southern edge of downtown.

To date, the tallest building in Charlotte is the 60-story Bank of America Corporate Center.

Trump's firm has been working with Infinity Partners to acquire a block of land on South Tryon Street and on other early stages of the project.
