Charlotte among 4 finalists for 2012 Democratic convention

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina’s largest city is one of
four finalists chosen to host the 2012 Democratic National
Convention.

State Democratic Party Chairman David Young sent a letter to
party members saying Charlotte is among the four cities in the
running to host the convention that will select the party’s nominee
for president and vice president.

The four finalists were revealed by national Democratic Party
Chairman Tim Kaine in an e-mail sent on Wednesday. Also contending
are St. Louis, Cleveland and Minneapolis.

Kaine says the selection team will visit the cities throughout
the summer before choosing.

Young says the selection of Charlotte shows that North Carolina
remains a battleground state and will be one of the most important
states on the political map in 2012.
