Charter Day School wants big money from Brunswick County
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Give us a million dollars. That’s the pitch trustees from Charter Day School, Inc., gave to the Brunswick County School Board tonight.
The chair of the board of trustees for Charter Day School proposed a settlement for an ongoing lawsuit with Brunswick County Schools for $1.097 million.
CDS is asking for money from the county for per pupil expenses. The company is saying essentially the county is not giving the same amount of money per pupil to their charter schools as it is to their public schools.
The Charter Day board chair says he feels confident they’ll get their money.
“I hope they’ll think it’s the right thing to do,” CDS Board Chair John Ferrante said. “I think most people in this community, if not all people in this community, understand that it is the right thing to do.”
Brunswick County Schools won’t comment pending the outcome of the ongoing litigation.
“The comments that Mr. Ferrante made during the public address are things that we can simply not address at this time,” Brunswick County Schools spokeswoman Jessica Swencki said.
This is a fight that has been ongoing since 2011. We hear it is highly unlikely that Brunswick County Schools will cut a big check to Charter Day School any time soon.
