Chemours will not hold public meeting in New Hanover County

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Chemours is not going to hold a public meeting in New Hanover County.

The county says the company notified them on Friday that the company denied their request to meet.

Last month, the county and city of Wilmington sent a letter to Chemours asking them to meet with residents to discuss the progress they have made to clean up the drinking water supply.

More than a year ago, the public learned the company was discharging GenX into the Cape Fear River.

The county says Chemours invited local leaders and representatives to tour the plant, but Mayor Bill Saffo and Chairman Woody White said they are not interested in a tour.

A copy of the letters Chairman White and Mayor Saffo received from Chemours can be viewed here.
