Child hit by car on Market Street in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (Star News) — A child was struck by a car near downtown Wilmington Thursday afternoon, according to Wilmington police.

Wilmington Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Dandron said the incident happened at 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Market Street and North 10th Street, near the Family Dollar. A boy was reportedly riding his bicycle through a crosswalk when an elderly woman struck him with her car.

Mary Hewitt, 71, of Castle Hayne has been charged with failure to see before starting movement, Dandron said.
