Child hit while riding bicycle in Oak Island, airlifted to Chapel Hill
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A child is in the hospital after being hit while riding a bicycle in Oak Island Tuesday afternoon.
Oak Island Police Chief W. L. Ingram said it happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday on Beach Drive.
Chief Ingram said the child was riding a bike and pulled out of an access onto Beach Drive to cross the street when a vehicle heading east hit him. Ingram said it was an accident.
Ingram said there are no charges against the driver who is fully cooperating. He said the child was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center after the accident. Then, the child was airlifted to Chapel Hill Tuesday night.
Chief Ingram said the accident is still under investigation.
