Children’s Museum of Wilmington honors ‘Great Friends to Kids’
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The fourth annual ‘Great Friend to Kids’ awards were held this afternoon at Union Station at Cape Fear Community College. The awards recognize those who go above and beyond in the name of children, not only in the Port City, but throughout the region.
The Children’s Museum of Wilmington gave out five awards today in five different categories including curiosity, inspiration, and innate love of learning.
Today’s event highlighted the achievements of six individuals, but the focus of the day was on two things: children and the importance of learning.
“Children are so important and they are obviously our future, and it behooves us all to do everything we can to pave the way for them,” said innate love of learning award recipient Wendell Murphy.
The museum tries to keep the awards a surprise for the recipients. Today Connor Barth was in attendance to present the inspiration award to Scott Braswell. Braswell thought he was there to honor Barth, and was incredibly surprised to find instead he was the one being recognized.
Organizers said this event is a great way to celebrate all the work done for children throughout the year that helps provide a spark in the lives of kids.
