City Council agrees on $37 million max for baseball stadium; No agreement yet
WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) — Negotiations are ongoing and an agreement with Mandalay/Braves will not be voted on at Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
However, to meet the deadline to get something on the November ballot, Council will hold a public hearing regarding a bond referendum, not to exceed $37 million for the cost of the stadium and land.
If Council approves moving forward with the bond referendum, they will then act on a resolution that would provide official agreement to put the issue on the Nov. 6 ballot.
Council is also expected to direct staff to continue working on land acquisition for the stadium, even as details of the final agreement with Mandalay/Braves are being negotiated.
