City Council approves first vote of Water Street deck redevelopment
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington City Council voted to move forward with plans to redevelop the Water Street parking deck.
The council approved the first of two votes on an agreement with East-West Partners Management Co., Inc. of Chapel Hill to redevelop the property.
The redevelopment project is a public and private partnership that will replace existing public parking and bring a mixed-use development downtown.
Councilman Paul Lawler was the only council member to vote against the resolution. “There are better uses of this money than investing in this project,” Lawler said at City Council on Tuesday night.
There will be a final vote on the agreement on July 19.
