City Council approves Market Street annexation

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington City Council voted unanimously to pass the annexation of a residential project in the area of Market Street and Marsh Oaks Drive.

Flournoy Development wants to build up to 450 units in an apartment complex on 27 acres of land in the area. Project managers have proposed creating a concrete median on Market between Marsh Oaks Drive and Alexander Road, limiting the number of left turns.

Several residents spoke out against the plan, saying the development would snarl traffic and alter the atmosphere of the community.

Next, the council will review a site plan for the project.
