City Council to consider $86 milllion budget, includes employee pay raise

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — During Tuesday night’s meeting, Wilmington City Council members heard a presentation for the recommended $86.3 million general fund budget, which is $1 million more than last year’s adopted budget.

The budget director recommends a three-cent tax increase, from 42 cents to 45 cents per $100 of value. The extra money would go toward a five-year capital improvement program, adding up to $41 million. It would help fund various public improvement projects, including streets, parks & recreation and public facilities.

The budget also calls for a two-percent pay increase for all city employees, with one percent deferred compensation at midyear.

City council will hold work sessions on the budget both on June 4 and June 6, with a public hearing in between on June 5. The budget must be adopted by June 30.
