City tearing down building for PGA Tour downtown transportation hub


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Work is taking shape in downtown Wilmington to accommodate the Wells Fargo Championship.

What was once classrooms owned by Cape Fear Community College is now the City of Wilmington’s property.

This former building on North Front Street across from PPD is one of 3 buildings being demolished by the city.

City staff said for now, once the area is cleared it will be used as a transportation hub for the golf tournament.

People will be able to catch shuttles to and from the tournament in Porters Neck.

As for long term, the city said they are working with the private sector on a sustainable economic development for the area.
