City considers draft comprehensive annexation policy
At today’s agenda briefing, the Wilmington City Council discussed what elements to include in a comprehensive annexation policy that, if approved, would guide future city annexations. When finalized, the policy will outline how future annexations are handled in an effort to have a more methodical approach to annexation that would provide long-term notification of what areas would be annexed and when. No official action or vote was taken at today’s meeting.
City Council will consider a finalized policy draft in the next few months, including a more detailed look at potential areas that could be annexed. Possible study areas for annexation have been identified, but further analysis will have to be done before any action could be taken. The preliminary draft policy document and study areas can be viewed on the city’s website at www.wilmingtonnc.gov.
