City Council amends its travel policy

There were some significant votes out of Wilmington City Council Tuesday night.

Council approved amending its travel policy after council members and some of their spouses went to Washington, DC, in March for a conference on taxpayer dollars.

Among the changes, the city will no longer pay for spouses’ lodging or meals. Council members will only be reimbursed for the single-room rate, and no luxury room rates will be reimbursed.

Also at the meeting, council approved the budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year. Mayor Saffo said the budget will be $80 million. That is $6 million less than the current budget.
