City council to vote on issues Tuesday night
Wilmington city council members are expected to vote tonight on a number of items that have piqued public interest lately including annexation, taxi rates, and panhandling.
There will be two annexation items. First, the city council will vote to set up a public hearing about a developer who wants to voluntarily annex into the city before building a mixed-use development on River Road.
Then there’s the forced annexation issue surrounding Monkey Junction. Council must vote on a plan presented by city staff about extending city services to the area.
Increasing taxi rates by a dollar, and in turn getting rid of the one-dollar fuel surcharge is also on the agenda.
Council is also expected to vote on changing the city’s panhandling laws regarding where street performers and other solicitors can be on downtown streets.
