City Pipe Leaks into Yard

It’s bad enough having a water leak in a drought. He says this is just the latest development in an ongoing problem.

When he heard the sound of water trickling into a stormwater pipe, he knew something was wrong.

“I saw active running water in the ditch on days when it was perfectly dry,” says Lee.

So he called the city to tell them about the problem. They sent out a crew who discovered a drinking water pipe was leaking into the stormwater drain.

“I’ve had it maybe three feet up on my basement. And I’ve been flooded six times since I’ve moved in.”

Lee says his yard has been flooded a number of times over the years, because of improper drainage. The city has offered to take responsiblity for maintaining the stormwater drain. but city officials say there is a capacity issue, that won’t be fixed until funding comes through sometime in 2009 or 2010. That means there’s a good chance lee will have to deal with more potential flooding issues until then.

“I just want this resolved, because i can’t sell my property or i’ll have to notify everybody that i have water problems.”

Mr. Lee says crews have finished repairing the leak in the drinking water pipe and have drained the water from the storm system.
