City of Wilmington considers rezoning portion of Oleander Drive

Thursday, March 25, public input meeting on Oleander Drive rezoning, 6:30 p.m., Winter Park Elementary School

The city is considering rezoning part of Oleander Drive between Pine Grove and 51st Street. The rezoning would change the way the area is developed and what types of buildings can be located there.

The city’s Future Land Use Plan identifies this area as suitable for transition from single-family residential to commercial or higher-density residential uses. Along this portion of Oleander Drive, an increase in the number of traffic lanes and the increased number of cars on the road have eroded the original character of the area. As these types of areas change, the city’s land use plan calls for the development of a “transition zoning district” to provide more options for development.

The city is working to involve residents and property owners in developing regulations that are appropriate for the area.
