Classic car parade celebrates law enforcement
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A parade of law enforcement vehicles and classic cars, heading south on Highway 17 Saturday was meant to celebrate law enforcement officers in the area.
Organizer Jervie Babson, who is a car enthusiast, wanted to show his appreciation for local law enforcement officers and decided a parade would do the job.
“I have a classic car, and I’m a member of a classic car club,” Babson said. “We love to get out and ride, so I organized the parade and got the law enforcement involved.”
The parade started at the battleship and rode all the way to Shallotte where officers were treated to lunch at Jerome’s Steak and Seafood.
Brunswick County Sheriff Deputy Brian Chism said it’s a gesture that’s not taken for granted.
“Especially this time, with everything that’s been going on in the country, for someone to put something on for law enforcement to show their appreciation, there’s really no words to describe it,” Chism said.
Babson said thanks to donations from the community and car clubs, to cover food costs, the parade will continue each year.
