Coach Brown discusses trip back to Wilmington
The NBA Charlotte Bobcats have been holding training camp in Wilmington all week. Our John Rendleman says Wilmington has roots for not only the head coach of the team, but his brother as well.
This is not Larry Brown’s first visit to the port city. The Bobcats’ head coach actually played here when he was a freshman basketball player at UNC-Chapel Hill.
“Coach Brooks was the coach when it was Wilmington College. It was the only overnight trip we had our freshman year. You were just a twinkle in your mother’s eye,” said Coach Brown.
Regardless, Head Coach Larry Brown is not the only Bobcat coach with a Wilmington connection. Assistant Coach Herb Brown, Larry’s brother, lived here back in the mid 90’s.
“It was a great, great time. I loved the town. I love Wrightsville Beach. I lived in Landfall – two and a half golf courses. It was beautiful. I have a terrible golf game, but I made a lot of friends here. In fact, one of them was here today,” said Herb.
What about a quick prediction for this years Bobcats’ squad?
Assistant Coach Brown said, “If you play the right way good things will happen, and we are going to play the right way. Good things are going to happen.”
The Bobcats will hold a scrimmage Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at Trask Coliseum. It is free, but you have to stop by UNCW to pick up a ticket to get in. The ticket office is open from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
