Coast Guard buoy tender Elm in town

WILMINGTON NC (WWAY) — There is a new face in the Port City. You may have noticed the large black Coast Guard ship next to the Diligence. It is the Coast Guard ship Elm.

The Elm is a 225-foot Coast Guard buoy tender based up the coast in Atlantic Beach. The mission of the ship is servicing 240 aids to navigation. Those are the red and green buoys from New Jersey to the North Carolina-South Carolina border.

The Diligence has suspended tours as it under goes maintenance. Tours will resume in February.
