Coast Guard rescues two

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The  Coast Guard had its hands full Saturday after making two rescues — one including an 80-year-old woman from a cruise ship.

The first rescue occurred Saturday morning when rescuers were requested to transfer a male patient suffering head trauma from Carteret General Urgent Care in Morehead City. The patient was transferred to Duke University Hospital in Durham, where he was listed in stable condition.

A second call, Saturday afternoon, requested the pick up of an 80-year-old woman from the Carnival Pride cruise ship. The ship was traveling just south of Cape Lookout at the time. The woman, who was suffering from health complications, was flown to Carteret General Urgent Care in Morehead City. She was last reported in stable condition.

“The cruise ship personnel were very professional and well-versed in hoisting operations, which made the evolution easier on us,” said Lt. Daniel Reilly, helicopter pilot for the case.
