Coast Guard looking for suspect in bomb-threat

The Coast Guard is asking for any information about the hoax bomb threat made about the Surf City Swing Bridge.

The Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach received a call Thursday from the swing bridge tender who overheard someone talking about blowing up the bridge.

The Coast Guard went to the scene.

The search led to no results and the threat was presumed a hoax.

Hoax distress calls cost taxpayers thousands of dollars and could sacrifice other people’s safety.

Coast Guard member Justin Shackleford said, “Yes, we do have three other vessels here at the station that we can launch, but it does inhibit our ability to respond to different cases.”

If you have any information about the hoax, call the North Carolina Coast Guard Command Center at (252) 247-4570.
