Coast Guard rescues family from sunken boat off NC
EMERALD ISLE, N.C. — The Coast Guard says a family of four has been rescued from a sinking boat off North Carolina’s Bogue Inlet after several radio calls for help were lost.
Coast Guard personnel lost the signal of a second mayday call Sunday, but calculated the boat’s position using the two towers that received it. A 27-foot boat was sent from the Emerald Isle station and found the family at the capsized boat about 8½ miles from Bogue Inlet.
The Coast Guard says the boaters all wore life jackets. The boaters weren’t identified. The first call was received about 3 p.m. and the boaters were rescued about 4:15 p.m.
