Coffee with a cop brings police and citizens together
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today is National Coffee With A Cop Day and some people in the Cape Fear enjoyed their morning brew with some officers.
The New Hanover County Sheriff’s office and Wilmington Police Department partnered with McDonald’s to host Coffee with a Cop. The program helps bring officers and the citizens they serve together, over a hot or ice cold cup of coffee. Some officers say it is essential to have times like this where they can hear from the people and answer any questions.
“Questions can range anywhere from, what number do I call in case of an emergency, to how do I stop speeders in the neighborhood, setting up a community watch, what kind of programs does the sheriff’s office offer? And all these things, we’re definitely willing to answer over a cup of joe and good old McDonalds,” Sgt. Billy Montjoy with New Hanover County Sheriff’s office, said.
The officers also said it’s important to speak with the citizens in a calm and casual setting, who act as the eyes and ears for law enforcement in the area.
