Columbus Co. Animal Control investigating animal cruelty

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Columbus County Animal Control is investigating a case of animal cruelty and abandonment that left one dog dead, according to a news release.

Joey Prince with animal control says a 911 caller reported that there was a dead dog and other animals at an empty home at 182 Sikes Drive in Whiteville.

Prince says an animal control officer found one dead dog, three malnourished dogs and two starving cats at the home.

Animal Control says it appears the animals were left weeks ago, based on the condition of the house and yard.

Prince says charges for animal cruelty, animal abandonment and failure to obtain vaccination for the animals are pending.

Anyone with information is asked to call (910) 641-3945.
