Columbus Co. detective busted in undercover drug investigation


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Columbus County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said one of their own is out of a job after an undercover investigation ended with an arrest of a detective.

According to a news release, Christi Caraballo Heath, 32, was arrested yesterday on charges of possession with intent to sell/deliver, and maintaining a vehicle to sell/deliver schedule II substances. A spokeswoman said Heath, who was a criminal detective, was terminated immediately at the conclusion of the investigation. Deputies said Heath sold opiates throughout the county and narcotics detectives were able to purchase drugs from Heath in an undercover investigation.

Heath was hired at the end of 2010 and moved into the Criminal Investigations Unit in January of 2015. A spokeswoman said at this time, no criminal cases are affected by Heath’s arrest.
