Columbus Co. murderer granted parole


COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A man convicted of murder in the 1990s will soon be granted parole.

According to a release from the State of North Carolina Post Release Supervision and Parole Commission, Ervin Williamson was granted parole. He was convicted of first degree murder in August of 1991 in the death of Danny Lee Keel, according to records.

The murder happened in 1990 in Chadbourn after documents said Williamson and Keel had a confrontation about a woman. Williamson shot Keel in the chest with a 9mm handgun, and Keel died after running to a nearby home to call police.
